세계 최대 5톤급 전기모터 펌프 개발 속도 3년간 총 12억원의 연구·개발 자금 확보 지난달 자체 개발 연소기 50초 장기 연소 시험 성공
[2023/12/05] 국내 최초 민간 유인 우주 발사체 개발 기업 우나스텔라가 중소벤처기업부의 '스케일업 팁스' R&D 과제 지원 사업에 최종 선정됐다고 5일 밝혔다.
스케일업 팁스는 민간투자사와 연구개발전문회사 컨소시엄으로 구성된 운영사가 유망 중소벤처를 발굴해 먼저 투자하면 정부가 이후 연계 지원하는 프로그램이다.
우나스텔라는 팁스 운영사 에트리홀딩스의 투자 및 추천을 받았다. 기술성, 사업성, 사업 수행 역량 등이 높게 평가된 가운데 3년간 총 12억원의 연구·개발 지원금을 확보하게 됐다.
우나스텔라는 이번 과제 선정을 계기로 현재 개발 중인 5톤 급의 전기모터 펌프 사이클 엔진 개발에 속도를 낼 예정이다. 우나스텔라가 개발 중인 전기모터 펌프 사이클 엔진은 기존 전기모터 펌프 엔진의 추력 규모 2~3톤을 뛰어넘는 세계 최대 추력 수준이다.
올해 1월 개발 중인 연소기의 최초 연소 시험을 성공한 이후, 지난달 경기도 여주시의 자체 설비에서 50초 장기 연소 시험에도 성공했다.
우나스텔라는 2022년 2월 설립된 국내 최초 민간 유인 발사체 스타트업이다. 고도 100㎞까지 유인 우주 비행을 할 수 있는 발사체를 개발해 준궤도 우주여행 서비스를 제공하는 것을 목표로 현재 전기모터 펌프 사이클 엔진 시스템 기반의 자체 엔진을 설계 및 개발하고 있다.
설립 한 달 만에 블루포인트파트너스로부터 시드 투자를 받았으며, 현재까지 누적 투자 금액 85억 원을 유치했다.
박재홍 우나스텔라 대표는 "지난해 5월 패스트트랙으로 팁스에 선정된 것에 이어 ‘스케일업 팁스’에도 선정되며 우나스텔라가 개발 중인 전기모터 펌프의 혁신성과 기술적 우수성을 인정받았다"며 "본 기술을 통해 향후 정밀 궤도 투입이 용이한 발사체와 극저온 사업 분야에 진출할 것"이라고 말했다.

(Seoul, December 05, 2023) — UNASTELLA Corp. (CEO Park Jae-hong), Korea’s trailblazing private human spaceflight company, has been named a finalist for The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) ‘Scale-up TIPS’ R&D project support program.
The ‘Scale-up TIPS’ program, facilitated by an operating company comprising private investment firms and research and development specialized entities, focuses on identifying and investing in promising SMEs and startups, with subsequent government support.
UNASTELLA received investment and a recommendation from one of the Scale-up TIPS’ operating company Etri Holdings, ultimately earning selection for the R&D project support program based on high evaluations in technology, business feasibility, and project execution capabilities. As a finalist, UNASTELLA is positioned to receive a total of KRW 1.2 billion in research and development support over the next three years.
This financial injection will play a pivotal role in expediting the development of a groundbreaking 5-ton class electric motor pump cycle engine. This engine surpasses the power scale of existing electric motor pumps, reaching the world's highest power level.
In January of this year, UNASTELLA marked its initial success by completing the first combustion test of the self-developed rocket engine combustor. Last month, in November 2023, the company achieved an extraordinary milestone with a 50-second long-term combustion test at its own facility in Yeoju City, Gyeonggi Province.
Established in February 2022, UNASTELLA is Korea’s first private human spaceflight startup, aiming to provide suborbital space travel services with a vehicle capable of manned spaceflight up to an altitude of 100 km. The company is actively designing and developing its engine based on the electric motor pump cycle engine system.
Within a month of its establishment, UNASTELLA secured seed investment from Bluepoint Partners, accumulating a total investment of KRW 8.5 billion to date.
Park Jae-hong, CEO of UNASTELLA, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "Following our selection for Fast Track TIPS in May of last year, being named a finalist for 'Scale-up Tips' acknowledges the innovative and technological excellence of UNASTELLA's signature technology, the ElecPump Engine System.
